Custom Cobb Accessport Mount Installation

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

The Cobb access port had no place in the Subaru. I had no interest in the suction cup, the window or dash that is typically used. I also didn't want the cord hanging down I wanted a polished factory look. I decided that it would look best in place of the map lights in the headliner. Luckily, I came up with this idea at the time I was customizing my suede headliner so I was able to finish them together.

To start, I made a mold of the access port . To do this I took the access port a wrapped it in tape then took mar glass on a piece of wood which I mixed and applied with a putty to the taped port after letting it cured, I pulled the port out. I drilled a hole and jig sawed a rough cut of the shape I needed. Then following the new shape, I cut with a flush trim router bit. Now you have a wood template.

Before I continued with the template, I took in to account material thickness which was the suede headliner. I took the template to cut a piece of MDF with an air saw to the shape of the access port, with the correct tolerances to fit the access port snug with the suede. I then glued it into the headliner and molded to the factory shape. Once it was smooth, I covered it all n suede and your acessport is ready to install.

Of course, spelling it out makes it seem very simple but out of my projects, this was a breeze for me. Especially with my experience at Audio Xtreme, I often finish surfaces and have to get creative.
